Is a station guaranteed to be working right now?

No. Every station shown is marked "operating" in the federal Alternative Fuel Data Center, but that's a periodically-confirmed status, not a live feed. A charger can be temporarily down between updates. Check the station's "last confirmed" date and the network's own app before relying on it for a trip.

Why is a station I know about missing?

It may be marked planned, temporarily unavailable, or private/restricted-access in the source data, or it may simply not have been reported to the AFDC yet. We only show public, currently-operating stations.

What does "stations per 100,000 people" mean?

It's the state's station count divided by its population, scaled to 100,000 residents — our own calculation from AFDC station counts and Census population. It measures build-out relative to population, not travel convenience.

Where does the data come from?

The Alternative Fuel Data Center (AFDC), operated by the National Laboratory of the Rockies (formerly NREL) for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Is EVAtlasUSA affiliated with any charging network or automaker?

No. It is an independent reference site built on public federal data. It is not endorsed by or affiliated with the National Laboratory of the Rockies, any charging network, or any vehicle manufacturer.
